Filter squad music app

Role and responsibility

Earlier in my career, I did freelance work for this startup, where my role was to contribute to the concept development and strategic design of the project.

Description

Our goal was to develop a music player app that stood out from the rest by offering a fun and engaging user experience. We wanted to move beyond traditional designs and create an interface that felt dynamic, interactive, and visually appealing. The app was designed to not only play music but also enhance the listening experience through innovative features, such as personalized playlists, mood-based recommendations, and interactive visual elements. By focusing on both functionality and enjoyment, we aimed to redefine how people connect with and enjoy their music.

The process

I follow the Double Diamond method in my design process. This approach helps streamline and enhance creativity while ensuring all stakeholders remain informed and engaged throughout the project.

The challenge

We began by conducting a basic competitive analysis, exploring existing music player apps to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and overall user experience. Our goal was to identify gaps in the market and uncover opportunities that would set our app apart. By analyzing competitor features, user feedback, and design choices, we aimed to pinpoint the key challenges in differentiation and determine what unique value we could bring to users. This research laid the foundation for creating an app that not only stood out visually but also offered a more engaging and personalized listening experience.

Define

To validate our findings, we expanded our research by developing user stories, wireframes, and low-fidelity designs. This process allowed us to simulate real user interactions, test different workflows, and refine our ideas based on feedback. By iterating through these early design stages, we were able to identify both successful elements and areas that needed improvement. These insights helped us ensure that our final product would not only be functional and intuitive but also provide a seamless and enjoyable user experience.

Develop

The design phase began with refining the core structure and functionality before progressing to high-fidelity design compositions.

With the foundational designs in place, I moved on to designing key components and assembling them in Sketch. In the early stages, my focus was on defining the most critical and frequently used areas of the interface to establish a strong user experience. As the design evolved, I shifted toward fine-tuning details and incorporating micro-interactions to enhance user engagement. Using Sketch and Adobe XD, I prototyped these interactions, allowing for iterative testing and continuous refinement. This process ensured a seamless, intuitive, and polished final product

Deliver

After refining and validating the designs through multiple iterations and discussions, I prepared for the handoff to the development team for implementation. The goal was to develop a functional pilot version that could be tested and further optimized before a full-scale launch.

However, despite our progress, financial constraints ultimately prevented us from moving forward with development. Without the necessary resources to proceed, the project was put on hold indefinitely. While this was an unfortunate outcome, the design work and research conducted provided valuable insights that could be leveraged in future iterations or alternative solutions.
